The 2009 ERGO Cup Application

Overview:

The goal of this competition is to recognize and encourage the development of innovative ergonomics solutions and education in the workplace. Any organization that can demonstrate an effective ergonomics solution or education initiative within the last 24 months (November 2006- 2008) is eligible to compete. Application deadline is November 24, 2008

There are three Ergo Cup Categories (team-driven workplace solutions, engineering/Ergonomist-driven workplace solutions, training and education). The general theme across all Ergo Cup categories is innovation. Consequently, off-the-shelf improvements will not be considered (even if they are great ergonomics solutions and generate an excellent ROI). Innovation is defined as "A new device or process created by study and experimentation".

  1. Team-driven workplace solutions - At least 75% of the problem solving effort (problem identification, assessment of the issues, improvement definition, implementation and refinement) is conducted by individuals whose primary duties are production and maintenance jobs. Some technical support by in -house Health & Safety or Engineering/Ergonomist staff is allowed (as members of the team or as support to the team), but the bulk of the activities are conducted by the production and maintenance team members.

  2. Engineering/Ergonomist-driven workplace solutions - At least 75% of the problem solving effort (problem identification, assessment of the issues, improvement definition, implementation and refinement) is conducted by in-house Engineers and Ergonomists. Some technical support by outside consultants is allowed, but the bulk of the activities are conducted by in-house resources.

  3. Training and education, ergonomic program - A planned ergonomic program or process improvement that includes training (i.e. series of activities driven by learning objectives) that result in specific knowledge or skills related to ergonomics problem solving (problem identification, assessment of the issues, improvement definition, implementation and refinement). The education initiative should lead to significant workplace solutions that improve ergonomics. Office ergonomic program improvements and training would be included in this category.
