We will present an IP model for optimizing the initial attack (IA) organization needed to maximize the effectiveness of various fire containment activities that can be sustained by the optimal IA organization. An initial attack organization could consist of a set of hand crews, engines, bull-dozers, helicopters, and the like. The optimization model attempts to find the “best” IA organization (a collection of resources) available within the allowable annual initial response cost allocations to respond to a set of representative fire ignitions that could occur within a planning year. We will also discuss some of our computational experiences of running the integer programming model on a few prototype data sets. |
