We wish to extend a warm welcome to the 2003 WEPAN Conference, "50/50 by 2020: Working Together for Equity" on June 8 - 11, 2003 in Chicago, Illinois. To achieve the goal of 50 percent women in our institutions and in the workforce by the year 2020, it will take the active partnerships of schools, industry, government, and higher education working together. In addition, we must do more than provide programs for women; we must transform our institutions, organizations, and companies to create equitable societies in higher education and at work. The 2003 WEPAN Conference has been designed to facilitate progress towards our goal of equality. We have some new, exciting events and programs for this year's conference that support the theme of "Working Together for Equity":

*Focus on Industry: On Monday, June 9th, the sessions and workshops will focus on working together with industry to improve engineering education for women. There will be a special afternoon session where industry representatives can interact with WIE/WISE directors on a one-to-one basis.
*Focus on Faculty: Special sessions on increasing and retaining the number of women faculty will take place on Tuesday, June 10th. Learn about best practices to increase the number of women faculty.
*MentorNet Partners Workshop: MentorNet will hold its annual Partners Workshop in collaboration with the WEPAN conference on Tuesday, June 10. If you are a current or prospective member of MentorNet, be sure not to miss these sessions.

WEPAN will also continue to have special sessions and workshops for newcomers who will be connected with current WEPAN members to help and guide them. A special Newcomers breakfast will be held on Monday. Pre-conference activities on Sunday include an array of workshops in addition to hands-on activities for youth. The Resource/Poster Room is an excellent way to meet directors of other programs and to learn what works for them.
Of course, this welcome to the 2003 WEPAN Conference cannot be complete without an introduction to the Chicago. We encourage you to come early, and stay late and explore the fascinating city of Chicago.

We hope to see you at the 2003 WEPAN Conference. Be ready to take in new information, share ideas, and strategize how we can substantially increase the number of women engineers. Only by working together can we obtain equity and improve the field of engineering for all!
