Paper Title:

Identifying a Research Agenda on STEM Educational and Career Mentoring

Date & Time:

06/10/03  09:45

Abstract:

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Directorate for Education and Human Resources Programs (EHR) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering (CEOSE)would like to convene a discussion session at the WEPAN meeting to identify existing research and gaps in the research on STEM educational and career mentoring. This session will include preliminary findings from an examination of the existing research base on STEM mentoring and information on what we know about effective mentoring from both the NSF Presidential Awards of Excellence in Science, Engineering and Mathematics Mentoring (PAESMEM), the AAAS Mentor Awards, and the Society for Chicano and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Mentoring Award. Audience discussions will focus on STEM mentoring research that may not have been identified; preliminary indicators of effective mentoring; and identification of research questions related to STEM educational and career mentoring.
