One such program, the first Annual Edible Car Contest, was held to celebrate “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.. The event attracted thirty middle and high school students who built cars from edible materials and then raced the cars. Participants also visited with the campus Society of Automotive Engineering Car Team, completed a scavenger hunt and viewed engineering videos. Though this hugely successful event met our goals and exceeded our expectations, our goal was to develop a pilot program to provide opportunities for more students to participate in events that demystify technical processes and promote engineering careers. | Authors: | | | | Debbie Taylor, University of Michigan Women In Engineering, 1240 Lurie Engineering Center, 1221 Beal Avenue Ann Arbor, MI, 48109-2102 dpoet@umich.edu | | Christopher Wilson, University of Michigan
