Get Thinking Inside The Box |
Date & Time: |

Abstract: |
The computer is a "magic box" to many people, and some are intimidated by the idea of opening it and working with the components. This can be particularly true for girls, who may be comfortable "surfing" the internet but not getting inside to find out how the computer works. The Purdue University Women in Engineering Program has used a computer construction activity as one of the major projects in their Love Engineering at Purdue (LEAP) summer camp for middle school girls. This workshop will allow attendees who might also be reticent to get inside a computer to actually take apart and reassemble a computer. Information about each component and its function will be discussed. Suggestions on sources of computers for implementing this activity will also be shared. |
