Paper Title:

Best Practices In Recruiting And Persistence Of Women in Engineering: A 2002 Snapshot

Date & Time:

06/09/03  09:45

Abstract:

The US Coast Guard Academy conducted a study of "Best Practices" for recruiting women into engineering among cohort institutions. This paper presents detailed descriptions of the two 'models' that emerged from the study. In Model A, the admissions strategy is to convince women already interested in the institution to “try engineering first”. In Model B, the admissions strategy is to recruit women to the school by recruiting them into a major in engineering. Persistence strategies, shared by both admissions Models, are described. General findings are presented for recruiting and persistence.
