Paper Title:

Workshop on Identifying Hidden Gender Issues/Barriers

Date & Time:

06/10/03  11:10

Abstract:

This interactive workshop will provide participants an opportunity to analyze issues and barriers from a gender perspective. It is difficult to formulate a solution until you can clearly see the problem. By reframing issues from different perspectives, individuals can gain better insight before proceeding to problem solving. Several 'mini-case studies' will be presented at this workshop for the participants to analyze. Each case will be followed by a group discussion. Case studies are a wonderful way to present difficult issues to mixed groups that need to work together to effect change without alienating or placing blame on one group or another. Often it is discovered that the "other" perspective was never considered simply because it was outside of the frame of reference. Women often present and approach problems differently then their male counterparts based on their life experiences. This presents a unique challenge and opportunity for problem solving from different perspectives.
