THE CHALLENGE
Pathology never stands still. New research changes how diseases are understood and diagnosed, while practicing pathologists need reliable ways to keep their knowledge current. USCAP exists to serve that need: it brings pathologists together around scientific exchange, practical education, and lifelong learning that can improve patient care.
Its Annual Meeting brings more than 5,000 attendees together for a program of research presentations, courses, companion society sessions, exhibits, and professional connections. The 115th Annual Meeting in San Antonio in 2026 offered more than 200 scientific and educational sessions. But the meeting is only one part of USCAP’s work. The society also runs courses throughout the year, supports a Mentoring Academy, and makes educational content available after the live event.
That scope makes the operational challenge unusually complex. An abstract author, a course proposer, an invited speaker, an exhibitor, an attendee looking for CME, and a member joining a mentoring program all have different jobs to do. USCAP needs those journeys to work together while minimizing duplicated work for its staff.

THE SOLUTION
The Annual Meeting doesn’t have a single catch-all submission form. X-CD helps USCAP collect and manage the different pieces of its program, from scientific abstracts and proposals to courses, awards, and travel support. For the 2026 meeting, the main abstract call recorded 2,722 submissions. The 2026 meeting also involved 31 distinct author and submission modules covering different intake and planning needs, including scientific abstracts, proposals, courses, awards, and travel support.
The work continues after submission. X-CD supports abstract and speaker management, program development, society disclosures, and presentation file collection. Faculty materials and PowerPoint presentations have to be assembled for a large program, and disclosure information has to be handled in the context of an accredited educational meeting. Those are connected tasks: the content USCAP accepts and organizes becomes the program attendees discover, experience, and later revisit.
Registration brings another set of needs. Attendees choose how to participate, exhibitors engage with the audience, and X-CD’s mobile app puts the meeting program in attendees’ hands. Exhibitor lead retrieval supports the conversations that happen on the show floor. X-CD Payments now adds embedded payment processing to USCAP’s membership and event ecosystem. Together, these services give USCAP a broader operational foundation for the meeting.

YEAR-ROUND SUPPORT
USCAP’s educational value extends beyond the days people spend together in person. USCAP has delivered virtual and hybrid meetings, and its Annual Meeting includes an on-demand experience for people who want to revisit sessions or cannot attend onsite. In 2026, recorded Platform Sessions, Companion Society Meetings, and Evening Specialty Conferences were made available to general registrants; USCAP also sold on-demand access separately. Its published program distinguished the sessions included on demand from courses that were not.
X-CD’s presentation collection and content workflows support USCAP’s continuing educational experience. For the 2026 Annual Meeting, nearly 70 hours of video were uploaded, excluding recorded livestream content. Presentation collection, registration and access, and the virtual experience are linked to a critical next step: continuing medical education.
For a pathologist, watching a lecture is only part of the job. They also need a clear path to document participation and claim the credit for which they are eligible. USCAP is an accredited CME provider. For its 2026 meeting, it designated up to 219 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for general registration’s live and enduring activity, and up to 191.5 credits for the separate on-demand activity. These are maximum credits available by registration type, not credits earned by any individual attendee. X-CD’s continuing education workflow connects the learning experience to the evaluation and credit-claim steps, helping USCAP administer this essential part of its program.
The connection matters commercially as well as educationally. On-demand access gives USCAP an offering it can include with general registration and sell to people who need another way to participate. CME makes that offering more useful to the professionals USCAP serves.
THE PARTNERSHIP
USCAP’s relationship with X-CD also tells a less typical technology story. The society tried a different association management platform in 2023–24, then returned to X-CD for membership and event management. Today, X-CD supports USCAP across member management, the Annual Meeting, and year-round programs. The society’s Mentoring Academy, for example, uses a web-based application linked to X-CD to bring mentors and mentees together around shared interests and goals.
No single module explains why a society with this much going on needs a connected system. The value is in the handoffs: a submission becomes part of a program; a speaker’s presentation becomes content; an attendee’s registration opens a route into the meeting; and an eligible learner can return to that content and claim CME. USCAP’s team can keep extending those workflows as its members and educational programs evolve.
